Knockout Solutions for SharePoint Calendars
Overview
If you've spent anytime at all working with SharePoint calendars and its default views, you know its limitations. In this series of EUSP Live Online Workshops, we'll do a deep dive, showing you how to not just enhance the views, but create full solutions from existing calendars.
- May 18, 2010 - Create a SharePoint Master Calendar Solution
- May 19, 2010 - Add Color Coding and Tool Tips to Your SharePoint Calendars
- May 20, 2010 - SharePoint Calendar Resizing and Enhanced Views
This workshop series is aimed at Power Users and Site Administrators who are responsible for managing calendars on their SharePoint site. The solutions are a good alternative to third party, SharePoint calendars web parts.
Each workshop session is fully hands-on, including your own SharePoint sandbox for implementing the solutions, all of the resources and materials needed to implement the solutions, and access to an on-demand recording of the entire session when you need to review.
Purchasing the entire series of three workshops saves you $58.00 and guarantees you a seat in each of the sessions. All workshops are delivered live, online through your computer where you will be able to see the presenters desktop as well as hear the session over your computer speakers or headphones.
Detailed descriptions of each of the workshops are shown below. We look forward to seeing you at the next set of EUSP Live Online Workshops.

Create a SharePoint Master Calendar Solution
May 18, 2010 - 1:00pm EST
This workshop is a step-by-step creation of a Master Calendar solution in SharePoint. It includes the creation of content types, applying the content types to generate custom views in a master calendar and then exposing those views in team subsites.
All web parts, javascripts and documentation will be provided. Each participant will be given a SharePoint site in which to practice setting up the Master Calendar, including subsites for testing its functionality.
If you need a master calendar solution without dropping the 'big bucks' for a third party web part, this workshop is definitely for you. Seating is extremely limited. Book your seat today.
Testimonials from previous participants of Create a Master Calendar in SharePoint
"Our Superintendent wanted a calendar that would enable employees to post certain events on their subsite calendars which would appear on the home page calendar. We implemented [Mark's] solution, and are very happy with our new master calendar." [Ted]
"My first workshop and it was well worth it. I was hesitant to participate due to my lack of Developer or coding skill but everything was clear, easy to understand and follow." [Linda]
"I have attended many other sharepoint workshops/webinars and by far this was the best. I think what sealed the deal for me was the hands on interaction and being able to walk step by step thru the process on my own site." [Dave]

Add Color Coding and Tool Tips to Your SharePoint Calendars
May 19, 2010 - 1:00pm EST
How can you help team members quickly identify key events on overcrowded calendars? Thanks to these two powerful customizations: color coding and tooltips, the solution will be at your fingertips.
Workshop Overview
In the first part of the workshop, we'll add color coding to a calendar, based on various rules:
- Event type (meeting, holiday, training, etc.)
- Priority (high/medium/low)
- % complete (color range from green to red)
In the second hour, we'll see how to provide context information via a tooltip, allowing a user to view the details of an event through a mouseover without having to leave the page.
